So long...

It is time to leave.

DON'T PANIC

It's only for a while. All right, for quite a while.

I'll be back in a year maybe, or half a year. Maybe 3 months. Who knows?

I had first decided to stop a few months back, which is why the "Lost Pages" post had been introduced. It was stuff that was already done.

Now, I'm off to "do other stuff". Hate being enigmatic & all, but it's time I moved on to important things.

When I return though, I promise more bland movie reviews, a whole series of posts on Comic Books & stories of rocker zombies, demonic henchmen and video game playing gods.

So long... and thanks for all the fish.

Californication

Hank hates you all - Hank Moody (Californication)

The series - Californication, and its male lead - much like this shitty excuse for a review / reviewer (for, how different are the two?), indulges in self loathing, crude language and a large helping of nudity and freaky sex. It was a surprise then that by the end of the first three episodes, I was left quite disturbed; mostly, thanks to all the sex. Yes... coming from me, that is strange; but you can't really expect to be the same after you've watched a stoned couple throw up on an expensive painting during intercourse; or a sixteen year old punch a grown man in the eye during (notice the pattern here) intercourse, and run away giggling.

I suspect the "fornication" in the title isn't accidental. There is a whole lotta sex here.

The series kicks off with the hero of our little Dramedy - Hank Moody, played by David Duchovony - getting a blow job from a nun; a scene that resulted in Californication being taken off air from a lot of channels.

Hank Moody was a writer. He isn't anymore because his life is a mess; and we all know that a writer's life and his writing are intertwined (I love that word). His ex-girlfriend is about to get married, his book gets made into a movie that he absolutes hates, and in general, he doesn't seem to be able to get his shit together. Hank is funny, outspoken and good looking, which ensures he gets laid everyday; sometimes thrice a day. It's his way of dealing with things I suppose.

At the very beginning, I actively despised Hank. It was difficult to like him even a little. What I realized a little later was that his life mirrored what most of us are afraid of - Hank is the man who had the love of his life, a beautiful daughter and the gift of writing, but lost it all and ended up aimless and miserable. How could you like something you're afraid of?

What Hank does have going on for him is that he's a good father and a good writer. He realizes that his daughter will not always love him, no matter what, and that forces him to put his life back together. CalifornicationHe starts saying the right things and stops doing all the wrong things; even when almost everything he touches starts turning to shit. Even when the sins of his past start to catch up.

This change in Hank Moody is the engine that drives Californication; and it's what's so brilliant about the series.

Chaos Chronicles: The Lost Pages

UPDATE: added pts. 5 to 11

A long, long time ago, I used to blog at 'this other place'. Then they went and made it a paid site.

Now, I like blogging; but to actually *pay* money to do it seemed a bit unreasonable; especially when I blogged so damn infrequently. So I did what I suspect most people at 'that other place' did - I moved to another free provider, and deleted my old account (actually, it was deleted for me).

I look at it as a good thing though, because, some things are best left buried. The kind of crap I had up at my older blog was ridiculous.

But, as is the case with most things, there was some good in it too; which is what I've reposted here. Without further ado, here are some of the better posts, complete with typos, bad grammar and pointless content:

  1. Random Conversations: at work and with friends

  2. Fun convos: Where I annoy the hell out of a friend of mine on MSN

  3. Murder in three acts: Where I realize just what strange company I've been keeping lately

  4. Weird World: Where other strange company follows me around

  5. Brawl: Where two nut jobs fight outside our office. What makes this one funny is Rohan's comment at the end.

  6. College Forms: Where I have trouble filling a college form

  7. Drunken Stupor: My journey to find a refreshing beverage leads me to an old friend.

  8. Hookersville: Saturday night. Food. Accidental encounter with a helpful hooker.

  9. New Beginings: On being born in a train

  10. Spider Boy: Encounters with a spider

  11. Superhuman Recollections: One of my favourite memories as a kid.
