Frogs

By noon, I'd just gotten email from the school asking me to come pick up Ailsa's frog she'd brought in for show and tell. I can only assume he was too distracting to a class of Primary 1 and 2 pupils to focus all day.

Unexpected Fun

So, obviously today (written Saturday) is my birthday and I've been planning the day for awhile (a necessity when your husband works 6 day weeks and 12 plus hour days).  Despite the best laid plans, very little went the way we expected, but it still turned out to be a really fun, yet very unusual day for everyone.

Th plan was for me and Ali to go to Glasgow---then it changed to me taking the train to Glasgow, daddy to drop kids at grannie's who would take them to singing lessons, and he'd then do chores at the little house.  Then we got a text late last night saying the plane never left the island, so Grannie wouldn't be back to watch the kids, so we all headed of to singing, to get a text en route saying the singing teacher was sick, so singing was cancelled. So then we decided daddy would drive me to Glasgow and take the kids to the science museum, but we also got a text saying the plane Grannie was on was flying to Glasgow instead of Edinburgh...SO, he changed the museum plans to pick her up, and drive her to her car in Edinburgh to come back and pick me up. So 5 hours of driving and 200 miles later, we made it home about 5pm!  I had a lovely time doing 'quiet, alone mummy things,' (make up lesson, hair washed & blowdried, eyebrow/eyelash tint, wandering into stores and a Mexican burrito for lunch.) I walked over seven miles!

Daddy's best line of the morning was "I'll do fine with the kids, how hard could it be?".....well, the most entertaining incident was Fergus having an accident early in the adventure, and by the time I saw him he was dressed completely in clothes from the Lost & Found at the museum. (An ingenious solution!) He also learned that most men's toilets don't have changing facilities for children or nappy buying machines.

The kids had a wonderful time at the museum, chatting with Grannie in the car,  and seeing the sites of the city. We had a great trip to Costco and got a cookie dough cheesecake birthday cake.

Hair

We've branched into attempting fishtail braiding this week, and then another semi new style (in hopes they wouldn't fall out mid-school-day).

The days are getting shorter, but we have had some stunning sunrises (just after 7am)

Favours

Another mother asked me if I could repair a favourite bunny that has been sucked to death by her now 9 year old son--who still loves it.  I got it at school drop off and it had to be back by pick up. It came out looking a bit like Richard Simmons. There is a Clone I'll get monday for another repair job as well.  He was very pleased with his new "fun rabbit.'  His mother was in hysterics. I don't think it's quite what she had in mind, but she sews too and realised my choices were a bit limited with a 9 year old, well loves bear's fabric's structural integrity when it come to un picking seams and adding parts!
I went for just patching over the bits. This is the better of the two rabbits!

Aerobic Bunny has been given a new lease on life. (Glad my small scraps of cuddle fabric came in handy!)

A special treat

It's been a really rough week for all of us, so as a special treat daddy came home earlier from work and we had a family fire. It was crazy windy, but the kids and dogs loved it.

Up,up and away!

It was such a still night it was barely moving!

Curtains

We also finally found another horseshoe to hang curtains on, so got that done too and here are the little kids curtains finally finished.

Wonderment

Another swimming trip, another spectacle..

Today on our way home from swimming, we passed the park where there was a huge hot air balloon loading up.
Never a dull moment on our afternoons!

Winners

The winning mini garden had black pudding for dirt and lots of tiny vegetables. It was pretty impressive! (The girls 6 year old friend and her dad made it)

So, after our manic week, I wasnt feeling all that motivated to bake last night in preparation for the flower show....at 8am however, the girls had other ideas about all their entries. It was a rather stressful morning trying to get all the entries together and 5 minutes down our speedy journey I realised a certain 7 year old hadn't put any shoes on! We had to head home to get those. All entries were supposed to be staged by 9:30am. We might have screeches into the village at 9:27--cut some roses from the little house and showed up to the venue at 9:29.
But the work paid off. We didn't win any prizes for our onions or plate of four vegetables, but the roses took a 2nd and 3rd, the pancakes did as well, Isla's small flower arrangement took a 3rd, and her Pom Pom (thanks daddy!) took first. (Ok, it was also the only entry), but it was good. Ailsa's mini garden took first for her age group too (only entry but she is thrilled.  Both girls will get their name on the trophy for most points in their age group and we get to house a trophy for a year.). If we'd entered cupcakes for either of the little kids we would have gotten prizes too.  The brownies hosted the teas and cakes so will get their badges as well.

We spent the morning at a movie with Anne and then went back up to the flower show for the judging.

My Little Buddy

It's been a super busy week, with hardly any spare time....and today we had to run the car to the garage and then food shop and run some errands. It's a very quiet, and calm world with only one child!
Enjoying the car wash---despite his 'thumbs down.'

Flower Shows

So the village flower show is tomorrow and it seems that some people have been tending their gardens for the whole summer to win a prize....still new to this whole idea, but the kids had a great time driving home slowly, sitting in the back of the car, shouting 'stop!' When they saw something they thought they could use or enter. It was an entertaining ride home atleast. We'll see if they get anything entered or won tomorrow...

Busy weeks

Autumn is coming! Sun hasn't broken the hill before 6:38 :(

The girls have started tennis classes which they seem to be enjoying.
7am and still not light :(

Neighbours got their tree cut by the electric company. That was exciting!
Daddy brought the playpen up from grannie's so it is Murphy's new home.
